In 2023, the reported murder rate in the United States was 7 per 100,000 according to the FBI. Currently, Washington ranks as the 4th most dangerous American cities with more than 1 million residents. DC's murder rate is 36 per 100,000. The only other large American cities that are less safe than Washington are Memphis, St. Louis, & Baltimore. Their murder rates are 41, 38, & 37 per 100,000 respectively.
