Back in 2022 - 2023, some sociologist did an experiment with ~800 homeless people in Denver to gauge the effect poverty has on homelessness. One group was given $50 a month for 12 months. They were essentially the control group. Another group was given $1000 a month for 12 months. The last group was given $6500 up front, plus $500 a month for the next 11 months. And, 1 year later, the results were essentially the same in all 3 groups. Roughly half of those in each group had found a job & found housing. The other half remained unemployed & homeless. For half, $600 was all it took. But for the other half, not even $12,000 was sufficient.
