This was the same amount of money the USA paid France in 1803 for the Louisiana Purchase. Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1824. Texas won its independence from Mexico in 1836. Texas became a state of the United States in 1845. The additional portions of Mexico that became states of the United States include California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, Kansas, & Oklahoma.
