ICE Plans ‘Big Raid Across The Country’ Right After Inauguration

In a decisive move to enforce federal immigration laws, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is set to initiate extensive operations targeting sanctuary cities across the nation immediately after President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

President-elect Donald Trump's border czar said the incoming administration is now "reviewing" whether to launch removal operations in Chicago after a series of news reports in recent days indicated the raids would be launched as early as the day after Trump is sworn in as president.

"We're reviewing any plans in Chicago because of the leak," Tom Homan told ABC News, adding that the news reports may have potentially put officer safety at risk.

Reports indicate that between 100 to 200 officers would be involved in operations targeting over 300 individuals with serious criminal histories. These actions are part of a broader strategy to address the approximately 700,000 undocumented migrants nationwide who are under deportation orders.

These operations are slated to commence on January 21 where local policies limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Homan stated that the forthcoming operations would prioritize illegal immigrants who pose threats to public safety and national security. He underscored that the initiative aims to send a clear message to sanctuary cities regarding the federal government's commitment to upholding immigration laws.

The planned operations represent a reinstatement of enforcement practices that were curtailed during the previous administration. John Fabbricatore, former director of ICE's Denver office, noted that the agency's personnel are eager to resume their duties in full capacity. He remarked, "The men and women of ICE are looking forward to being able to do their job again."

The Trump administration's initiative has prompted responses from local officials and immigrant advocacy groups. In Illinois, efforts are being made to inform communities of their legal rights and to provide guidance on how to respond if approached by ICE agents. Despite these local efforts, Homan has indicated that the operations will proceed with or without the cooperation of local authorities, emphasizing the federal mandate to enforce immigration laws.

President-elect Trump has consistently prioritized the removal of individuals who violate U.S. immigration laws, particularly those with criminal records. He has asserted that such measures are essential for maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law. The upcoming operations are viewed as a fulfillment of his campaign promises to take decisive action on immigration enforcement.

While the primary focus of the raids is on individuals with existing removal orders, there is potential for collateral arrests of other undocumented individuals encountered during the operations. This aspect has contributed to heightened concerns within immigrant communities. However, the administration maintains that these actions are necessary to deter illegal immigration and to reinforce the integrity of the nation's immigration system.

The planned ICE operations mark a significant shift in federal immigration enforcement strategy, signaling a return to more stringent measures. As the new administration takes office, it is evident that immigration enforcement will be a central component of its policy agenda, with a clear message that adherence to federal immigration laws is imperative.
